COPPERAS COVE, TX — A Texas mom has been arrested after police say she left her infant son asleep in a running car while she went inside a nightclub to drink shots.
Samantha Grace Vaughan, 26, also screamed a racial slur at police and resisted officers' attempts to detain her, according to an arrest warrant.
KNOE reported that when police arrived on the scene at the Trackside Night Club at around 1:45 A.M on Sunday, they found the baby boy in a car seat inside Vaughan's vehicle.
Officers went inside and located Vaughan a few minutes later. One of the officers smelled alcohol on her, according to the affidavit.
She admitted that she drank two shots, KWTX reported, and then allegedly yelled, “You will not take my child and place her with a f*** (N-word).”
Vaughan, who has "LIVE FREE" tattooed on her knuckles, was taken to the Copperas Cove Police Department, where her blood-alcohol level was tested and reportedly found to be 0.148, which is almost twice the legal limit for driving in Texas.
Vaughan reportedly told the officers that she had only stopped by the club briefly to pick up her husband, and had sat down and consumed two shots with him.
According to the affidavit, when officers attempted to detain her, she “continued to thrash her body around … yell and throw herself about.” She smashed her head against the inside of a police car during the incident, and reportedly suffered a small cut to the forehead.
Additionally, according to KWKT, court papers state that Vaughan threatened the arresting officer and his family, saying that she "hoped they die."
Vaughan has been charged with abandoning/endangering a child with intent to return, resisting arrest, and terroristic threats to a public servant.
