The August 2002 death of a Fort Wayne, Indiana, teenager spent almost 20 years as a cold case until new information became available in 2019.

By all accounts, Stacy DeGrandchamp was at the top of the food chain at Fort Wayne High School during her junior year in 2002. She was a studious, outgoing volleyball player, and she was a rule follower with tons of friends.

As the school year wound to a close that spring, Stacy had been making some changes in her life — she had started dating 20-year-old Brandon Muff who had graduated from Fort Wayne a few years prior. Being with a so-called “bad boy” meant she fell in with the school’s party crowd, a group that she didn’t usually hang out with.

One of the group’s party spots was at the home of 16-year-old Holly Boisvert, whose father allowed dozens of teens to invade the home and swim in their pool. While Stacy seemed to be getting along with her new crowd of friends, there was some underlying tension between her and Boisvert.

Both the girls had strong personalities, and Stacy reportedly felt like Bosivert was hostile toward her. That was exacerbated by the fact that Boisvert had previously dated Muff and was apparently jealous that he was seeing Stacy.

The romance between Stacy and Muff fizzled as the summer of 2002 wore on. Stacy had plans to attend college, and Muff was not part of those plans. Stacy had also had a falling out with one of the other girls in the friend group, and Boisvert was all too happy to stir the pot.

The drama between Stacy and Boisvert came to a head on August 15, 2002, just days before Stacy was set to begin her senior year.

The two were at a house party when Boisvert confronted Stacy, and a physical fight ensued. When it was over, Stacy lay bleeding on the ground from a stab wound. By the time police and paramedics arrived, Boisvert was sitting on the home’s porch and told officers that while yes, she and Stacy had been fighting, she had no idea what caused Stacy’s injuries. Boisvert surmised that Stacy must have fallen on something sharp when she landed in the recycling bin in the driveway.

Stacy was taken to a nearby hospital where she died. An autopsy revealed that she had been stabbed twice by a knife, but police made no arrests in the case as they could not determine who had the knife. Stacy’s case then sat cold for 17 years.

In 2019, an eyewitness to the fight came forward and gave police the missing information that allowed them to interview Boisvert, who was living in Fon du Lac, Wisconsin. She still had possession of the knife that she used to stab the young woman she called her friend.

Ultimately, police arrested Boisvert and extradited her to Indiana where she pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in 2021 and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Boisvert is incarcerated at the Indiana Women’s Prison in Indianapolis. Her earliest possible release date is March 2030.
