ST. IVES, ENGLAND — Ringing fire alarms pushed normally Jolly Old Saint Nick over the edge during a meet-and-greet with children in an English town.
According to Festival Events St. Ives officials, on December 9, “Santa was upstairs in his grotto” with his “chief snowman” at the Corn Exchange when a smoke machine at the “blow your whistle” family rave event in another part of the building activated alarms.
Though organizers said Santa “immediately assisted in the evacuation of the building,” parents revealed the man from the frosty North Pole actually melted down.
One eyewitness told Cambridgeshire Live that Father Christmas had “steam literally coming from his ears.”
Adam Gaynor, a dad who had brought his three-year-old son and seven-year-old daughter to the festivities, posted on Facebook: ”He came [charging] in, ripped his hat and beard off in front of 50-odd kids and started shouting and swearing at people to leave.”
Another outraged mom said, "My friend's little boy was upset as his dad was carrying him when Santa told them 'to get the f--k out.’”
And, she added, the incident resulted in her having to break the bad news to her own little ones that the inappropriate hired Santa “was an imposter and will be going on the naughty list” this year.
The rave DJ theorized why Kris Kringle was in such a foul-mouthed mood: He needed a quiet atmosphere to properly receive Christmas requests.
“I do think though the reason Santa was raging was because they booked a kids’ rave on the same day as kids going to see Santa upstairs above the event,” suggested Stuart Wilkin. “He probably sat there trying to talk to kids with thumping music playing and was p---ed off. The fire alarm going off was probably the final straw for him.”
In the aftermath of Santa Claus’ spirited overreaction, festival officials apologized "for any offense or distress caused to parents and children by the attempts to ensure all visitors and staff had exited the building and were safe.”
