A man who stalked actress Eva LaRue, for more than a decade, will spend three years behind bars.
According to NBC, James David Rogers, 58, of Heath, Ohio, pleaded guilty in April 2022 to two counts of mailing threatening communications, one count of threats by interstate communications, and two counts of stalking.
On Sept. 8, 2022, he was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison and then three years of probation. This comes as a relief to LaRue and her family, who have been receiving threats from Rogers for 12 years.
"We feel like, finally, we know where he is. We know that for the next six years we will be able to breathe a massive sigh of relief and feel like we’re not looking over our shoulder constantly," LaRue told NBC.
Rogers started his harassment campaign in March 2007, according to the New York Post, which included threatening to torture and rape both the CSI: Miami actress and her daughter.
Rogers sent 37 letters to LaRue and signed each “Freddy Krueger,” the villain of the A Nightmare on Elm Street horror series.
NBC reported in one letter, Rogers said he would make LaRue’s daughter his sex slave. In another letter, he vowed to “instill fear into every part of [LaRue’s] life.”
According to NBC, FBI agents found Rogers' identity by using the letters to get his DNA and then uploaded it to a genetic genealogy database. Rogers was in the system from a previous arrest in 2019.
During the trial, LaRue revealed she and her daughter have had to seek therapy due to the threat.
