Tom Girardi, 82, may be in an assisted living facility battling dementia and late-onset Alzheimer's, according to PEOPLE, but he still owes a large sum of money to many people.
According to court documents, there are 522 claims that are filed against Girardi & Keese, Tom Girardi's now-defunct law firm.
Here is a breakdown of the allegations made against the former high-powered attorney.
The first embezzlement lawsuit
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Girardi filed for divorce from Tom Girardi in November 2020, after 21 years of marriage, and less than a month later, the ex-couple was hit with a lawsuit accusing them of embezzling money.
According to PEOPLE, Tom and Erika allegedly embezzled money that should have gone to the families of people who died in a 2018 plane crash aboard Lion Air Flight 610.
The lawsuit, brought about in late 2020 by Edelson PC law firm, claims that Boeing reached a settlement with clients represented by Girardi & Keese. The money was to go to the families but, instead, was allegedly used by Tom and Erika.
In a statement given to people, the suit read:
"Tom has resorted to embezzling the proceeds of settlements that should have been directed to his clients — including, as the basis for this complaint, the widows and orphans who lost loved ones in the tragic crash of Lion Air Flight 610 — in order to continue funding his and Erika’s lavish Beverly Hills lifestyles."
Wells Fargo Lawsuit
In December 2020, Tom was hit with a second lawsuit – this time from Wells Fargo.
According to Page Six, the former attorney is being sued for breach of contract. The bank claims Girardi and his law firm failed to make monthly lease payments.
The bank is seeking $883 million and charging 10 percent interest, annually, from the date of default.
Sued by former colleagues
Robert Keese, Girardi’s former law firm partner, and colleagues Robert Finnerty and Jill O’Callahan also sued him in December 2020.
They alleged Girardi never paid them $315,000 in their joint-business venture known as 1126 Wilshire Partnership, according to Page Six. They are also accusing Girardi of taking out $7.5 million in loans without their knowledge.
