WAYNESBORO, PA — A Pennsylvania couple is giving thanks to their rescue dog for allegedly preventing their three young daughters from falling prey to a confessed kidnapper that entered their house.
Grateful dad Thom Lambert told the press that Edgar, the beloved four-year-old hound mix his family adopted from a local shelter, started acting strange last week.
The Lamberts believe that Edgar had good reason, as allegedly an intruder was inside the Lambert home intending to abduct Thom’s three sleeping daughters, ages eight, six, and three.
Lambert said, “It was like a growl howl with that mixed at the same time. It was obvious he was really upset and as soon as I got him to quit barking, I heard sounds of someone going down the stairs.” From there, Lambert called 911, but responders found nothing out of line.
All involved might have chalked it up to just nervous dog behavior until a few days later, when Thomas Dewald, 20, was arrested for kidnapping a four-year-old girl just a few houses away from the Lamberts.
Dewald allegedly confessed to kidnapping the child from her bed, and then locking her in a wooden box, which he hid in a room at his grandparents’ house. According to authorities, the girl escaped and pointed them in the direction of her abductor.
In addition to reportedly saying he took the four-year-old, Dewald allegedly told cops that he’d been in another house that Sunday night, looking to kidnap the children there — but a barking dog scared him away.

The Lamberts believe that Dewald was inside the Lamberts’ residence, and Edgar was the hero who protected his human sisters.
The Lambert family is gushing pure love for Edgar with Thom saying, “Without Edgar, genuinely, who knows where our daughters would be right now? Our family was one hundred percent rescued by our dog that we rescued.”
Lambert also encouraged anyone who is looking for a pet now to consider adopting a rescue animal.
