In April 2021, Tatyanna Lopez, 19, was nine months pregnant and getting ready to welcome her brand new baby, Ayanna, into the world. Tatyanna, who hailed from Northern California, had an incredibly close relationship with her family, especially her grandmother Anna Navarro. This was her first child and the family’s first great-grandchild. Unfortunately, young lives would be cut tragically short.
On April 18, 2021, police were called to the scene of a shooting. When officers arrived they found a pregnant woman, almost full term, struggling and fighting for her life. She had been shot and did not make it. The female was later identified as Tatyanna. Her boyfriend and unborn child’s father, Angel Legrande, was also wounded in the ambush shooting. Tatyanna was reportedly not the intended target.
It was later discovered the couple was at a small backyard gathering with another couple when gunfire erupted. Navarro and her family were planning a baby shower to be held within days of Tatyanna’s murder. Instead, the family held a vigil in honor of their loved one.
Through a lengthy investigation, three months later, authorities announced the person they believed was the alleged gunman was 21-year-old Jonathan Dorado. He went on the run and there was a national and international manhunt to find the fugitive who had alleged gang ties.
Through an extensive search and investigation the United States Marshals Service was led to Dorado’s door. In August 2022, Marshals confirmed Dorado was located and arrested in Tijuana, Mexico. He has since been extradited back to California where he is facing charges.
