Maxine Garcia's life changed forever on New Year’s Eve 2011. Maxine and her husband were waiting for midnight to strike when they saw someone walk past the window of their Texas home. When the couple opened the door, they were met with rage.
The person on the other side was Maxine's ex-boyfriend, Louis Rojas. The couple wasn't able to calm him down and Maxine said her husband, Louis Lopera, was telling her to call the police. Maxine did call for help, but it was after six shots rang out. Lopera did not make it.
Rojas was not only Maxine's ex-boyfriend, but he is the father to their daughter. Rojas was in a rage, according to Maxine, because their little girl claimed her father had inappropriately touched her at the age of 5. Rojas claimed that night he went to their home and wanted to speak to his child, but that may not have been the truth.
Retired Sgt. Ron Hunter with the Harris County Sheriff's Office told Callahan Walsh he doesn't believe Rojas went to the house to speak to his daughter, "He came here for trouble." In fact, a neighbor told detectives they saw Rojas pacing outside one hour before the shooting. It seemed the attack was allegedly planned.
Maxine told Callahan Walsh her husband and her daughter were inseparable, she was even so close with Lopera she was calling him dad. Maxine also said Rojas was abusive towards her over the years and it became increasingly worse when she met and married Lopera.
She believes what pushed Rojas over the edge was the abuse claims and the custody situation. It all "infuriated" Rojas, Maxine said.
Since the murder, Maxine said she has heard from Rojas from a number linked to El Salvador. In addition, Maxine found videos of Rojas on YouTube fighting in El Salvador as well. It's possible he could still be there today.
John Walsh said during an episode of In Pursuit With John Walsh, "In my opinion Louis Rojas is a born loser. He failed in his relationship with Maxine, he failed in his relationship with his little daughter and he couldn't take the fact that Louis Lopera was 100 times better man than him."
Louis Rojas stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 220 pounds. He has a prominent scar on his left arm.
