‘In Pursuit With John Walsh’ Fugitive Matthew Edgar Arrested In Texas
On Dec. 29, 2022, the Sabine County Sheriff’s Office in Texas confirmed the U.S. Marshals arrested Matthew Edgar. The convicted killer was on the run for 11 months before his capture.

The Sabine County Sheriff’s Office confirmed convicted killer Matthew Edgar is behind bars. In January 2022, authorities say Edgar went on the run during his murder trial while he was out on bond. Although Edgar vanished, the trial continued and he was found guilty. According to KJAS, Edgar was sentenced to 99 years behind bars.
KLTV reports Egar is currently at the local jail and is awaiting his formal sentencing by a judge.
Edgar was previously named to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Top 10 Most Wanted.

Manhunt Continues For Convicted Texas Killer Matthew Edgar
On Oct. 31, 2020, authorities said 19-year-old Livye Lewis was found brutally murdered in Hemphill, Texas. The teen, according to authorities and reports, was killed from a shotgun blast to the neck and blunt force trauma. Her body was found inside a vehicle, reports added.
Investigators arrested Lewis’ boyfriend, 25-year-old Matthew Edgar. He was charged with murder and was out on a $50,000 bond. In January 2022, Edgar's murder trial began in Texas. Although reports said he was in person and in court the first couple of days but on the third day, Edgar disappeared. He has been on the run ever since.
Despite Edgar’s no-show in court, a jury reportedly continued to hear the case and ultimately convicted Edgar of murder. He was sentenced to 99 years. Since then, the Sabine County Sheriff, surrounding agencies, and the United States Marshals Service have been on the hunt to locate Edgar.
U.S. Marshals have followed many tips to different areas, but none have led to his arrest.
In August 2022, local officials released a statement about the case: “The Sabine County Sheriff’s Office has completed upwards of well over 30 leads regarding the whereabouts of Edgar which involved Western Louisiana parishes, North and East Texas counties, the greater Beaumont, Texas area and locations in New Mexico, Alaska, Alabama, and Missouri. There are additional leads pending coverage at this time and all are currently being investigated by this office, the Texas Department of Public Safety or the United States Marshals Service.”
Edgar is a white male with blue eyes and brown hair. He stands 6 feet tall.
