On Aug. 8, 2000, Natasha "Alex" Carter vanished without a trace from Beckley, West Virginia. The case has been open ever since. Authorities are hoping by releasing new age-enhanced images, someone will finally come forward with information.
Investigators said Alex was last seen with her biological mother more than 20 years ago, Susan Gail Carter. There is an active felony warrant issued for Carter for kidnapping.
As for Alex's biological father, Rick Lafferty, he spoke out and said he touches a photo of his beloved daughter every day he leaves his house. There’s hope in his heart he will see his child again.
Lafferty, who is now in his 80's, attempted to hold back some of his emotion. He was at a press conference in Dec. 2021 and his hope is to try and reach someone who has information. Alex was caught in the middle of a contentious custody dispute in Raleigh County, the FBI said. Alex's grandmother told authorities that she believed her granddaughter was scared of her mother and did not want to live with her, even though she had recently moved in with her mother and new step-father.

FBI Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge Mike Nordwall said, “Even though it has been 21 years, this case is not sitting on a shelf. I want Alex’s family and the community to know that we are focused on getting answers in this case and following every lead.” Digital billboards were also placed in various states across the country.
Multiple agencies are involved in this investigation, including the US Marshals, the FBI, West Virginia State Police and the Beckley Police Department, reports said.
Alex would be 32-years-old today. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children created an age enhanced photo of what Alex may look like at 29-years-old. She has a scar on her left eyebrow.
It's possible Alex's mother could be using the name: Susan Gail Webb. She stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed around 115 pounds when she disappeared. The suspect's birthday is March 8, 1959. She may change her appearance.
