On March 30, 2021, 21-year-old Dianna Brice disappeared from Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. Five days later, according to authorities, her body was found — she was murdered. An intense police investigation was underway at that point and authorities were uncovering pieces to the murder and accounting for every hour.
It was all adding up quickly and the suspect authorities were zoning in on appeared to be Dianna’s boyfriend Justin Smith.
Smith was not only the father of Dianna’s unborn child, she was 4 and a half months pregnant, but according to Dianna’s mother, he was the last person seen with her.
Betty Cellini told Callahan Walsh, the last time she saw her daughter was at a laundromat on March 30. When Betty walked out of the business, Smith was surprisingly in the back seat of her car. He said he was taking Dianna to a doctor’s appointment and Dianna didn’t seem too bothered by this idea. Betty had no reason to believe her daughter was in any danger. That was the last time she saw her child.
Lt. Tommy Walsh with the Philadelphia Police Department told IN PURSUIT when Dianna was found she had been shot three times in her face. Smith’s car was also located, there was video of the Ford Fusion burning. Lt. Walsh and his team worked tirelessly and uncovered video he showed Callahan Walsh of the minutes and hours they believe were after Dianna’s murder. Smith was with his best friend, Tylydiah Garnett, and they were at a local shop where Smith worked on vehicles.
There were allegedly gas cans and gas purchased by Garnett and Lt. Walsh believes Dianna’s body was placed into the back of the friend's vehicle before she was dumped. Not long after, Smith’s car was burning. As for the friend's rental car, Lt. Smith told Calalhan Walsh, there was a bloody fingerprint traced back to Smith and the victim’s blood was also on the vehicle.
Lt. Walsh said, "What type of person has the capacity to kill the mother of his unborn child and dispose of her like a piece of trash."
SA Brian Hefner of the FBI said Smith may have had a plan to flee the country to Cuba, but he left his wallet in the vehicle he owned. It was the same vehicle that was set on fire. Smith went to Atlanta and borrowed a phone from a stranger and called Garnett. Hefner believes Smith was trying to make his way to North Carolina.
Smith stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 160 to 180 pounds. The FBI said Smith has connections to Greensboro, North Carolina, New Castle, Delaware and has been in Miami, specifically the Little Haiti of Florida. Agents also said he has ties to Atlanta, Georgia. On April 9, 2021, a murder warrant was issued for Smith.
Garnett was charged with abuse of a corpse, conspiracy and arson, Lt. Walsh said and local reports added.
