Two nights before Thanksgiving in 2014, Aaliyah Bell disappeared without a trace and her family has been looking for her ever since. At the time, she was 18 years old.
It was November 25, 2014, when authorities say Aaliyah left her uncle's home after dinner and made a walk she had done dozens of times. Although it was later in the evening and rainy, no one had any concerns. The walk was only a half mile total in her Rock Hill, South Carolina neighborhood. Aaliyah was reportedly trying to make her way back to her Godmother's home.
According to Live 5, there were not any signs of a struggle on her path on Chestnut Street and authorities believe she did not run away. Eryn Pickett told WCNC in 2014 that another family member wired her niece Aaliyah $100 for black Friday shopping. In addition, Pickett said Aaliyah was in a good state of mind, "When she left Uncle Bobby's home, she was typical Aaliyah, upbeat. She said she would come back tomorrow, and tomorrow came and she didn't show up."
In November 2020, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) released an age-progressed photo of what Aaliyah may look like at the age of 24.
Aaliyah stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and when she vanished she weighed around 145 pounds. NCMEC says she had a pierced lip and stars tattooed on her stomach. The Charley Project reports Aaliyah was a student at the Phoenix Academy in the area when she went missing and she was in school on the day she vanished.
Pickett concluded, "Just have to keep our faith and stay strong. We just know she's still out there. We are just hoping and praying she just comes home."
In the beginning of December 2022, CN 2 connected with another family member. Laroy Hall said, “I just want clarity, I just want closure, I just want to feel whole again.” Hall is Aaliyah’s aunt. The same news outlet also spoke with Rock Hill Police detective Tayler Tucker. He said, “It’s difficult to imagine an 18-year-old girl just appearing and disappearing out of nowhere. There are no tracks, no sign of a struggle along the way, it’s like she’s up and gone.”
Tucker added, “We will always hope to be able to solve the case. And we will continue to work until we solve the case.”
