Escaped Murderer On U.S. Marshals Top 15 Most Wanted Being Sought In Los Angeles
Lester Eubanks, who has been on the run for 47 years, was convicted of killing 14-year-old Mary Ellen Deener in 1966. Newly resurfaced photos may finally lead authorities to capturing him.

The U.S. Marshals say they know Lester Eubanks, a U.S. Marshal Top 15 Most Wanted fugitive, who has been on the run since December 1973, spent significant time in Los Angeles. Eubanks, who was using the name Victor Young, planted roots in 1975, even holding down a job at a local waterbed factory in Gardena, California in the mid-1970's. He was interacting with employees, but always knew when to duck and hide.
Senior Inspector David Siler with the US Marshals Service tells In Pursuit with John Walsh, "Every time they brought the camera out... Victor would walk away. Victor i.e. Lester Eubanks." The photos are not of Eubanks himself, but of people in the Los Angeles area who may have had contact with him. An employee who loved to take pictures at the time, was always capturing the moments in time.
Siler said this about unearthing the photographs, "None of these individuals are in any trouble at all." At this point, Siler is hoping to gain more knowledge about Eubanks and his interaction with folks and to close in on the convicted killer's timeline.

Siler said Eubanks was first tracked to Los Angeles in 1975 and ABC News confirms he lived with a woman named Kay Eubanks between 1975 and 1996. "We know that he has a footprint there, we know that he has associates throughout the area, we just need to talk to those people," Siler told ABC 7.
Joy Springer, who worked for the waterbed factory and hired Eubanks, told ABC 7 the fugitive "wore a lot of cologne." The smell was enough to give her a "headache."
Eubanks was sentenced to death for the attempted rape and murder of 14-year-old Mary Ellen Deener in Mansfield, Ohio. Authorities say Eubanks not only tried to rape the teen, but shot her twice and then returned to the scene to beat her with a brick, leaving her to die.
Eubanks was behind bars, but in 1973 prison officials allowed him to go Christmas shopping in Ohio as a reward for "good behavior." Eubanks failed to return to his pick up location with the officials and has been on the run ever since.
In 2019, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children released an age-enhanced photo of what Eubanks could look like today. Eubanks is believed to possibly be armed and dangerous.
Eubanks may have possibly lived in North Hollywood, the Gardena area, South Los Angeles, and Long Beach. A possible girlfriend at the time, according to Siler, is named "Renee." Another worker, according to the report, is named "Rick."
