On July 10, 2013, reports say 1-year-old Daphne Webb went missing from a parking lot in Oakland, California where she was reportedly sitting in a parked vehicle with her grandmother. The toddler's father, John Anthony Webb, called police, according to reports, and said his child was missing from his SUV in the Gazzali's Supermarket parking lot. John reportedly said the 21-month-old toddler was "kidnapped."
Although exhaustive searches were conducted at the time, and John was even arrested early on, Daphne remained missing. The Mercy News said John was initially charged with felony child endangerment, but the charge was later dismissed.
Daphne's great-aunt, Roslyn Robinson, said the story about her niece being taken from the SUV was “... kind of far-fetched.” Robinson added, “He was the last person who was with her so obviously he would know of her whereabouts.”
As for Daphne's mother, according to the report, she was living in a rehabilitation home at the time of her daughter's disappearance. In January 2016, eight months before John's death, the woman gave birth to another child. The baby at the time was reportedly John's and the pair were married.
In August, 2016, according to Mercy News, John was found deceased. The article said he took his life. Robinson told the Mercury News, “At this point, we have closure on him but not on her.”
When Daphne vanished she was allegedly inside a 2002 black Ford Expedition and the 911 call was reportedly made around 11 a.m. Daphne was only a toddler at the time, 21-months-old, and was sitting in the rear passenger seat area.
Daphne has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing orange pajamas and pink socks. Her hair may have had braids in it. The location of Gazzali’s Supermarket is the 1400 Block of 79th Avenue in Oakland, California.
In 2014, the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NAMUS) added Daphne's case into their database.
