Where Is Amanda Nicole Eileen Campbell? The 4-Year-Old’s Bike Was Found But She Never Was
Authorities still don’t know what happened to a 4-year-old California girl who disappeared in 1991.
The Charley Project
Four-year-old Amanda Nicole Eileen Campbell was playing with other children in her Fairfield, California, neighborhood when she vanished and left her family with a single clue: her bicycle lying on its side a few blocks from her home.
Nikki — as she was known to family and friends — was with her brother at a friend’s house just four doors from their own home on Dec. 27, 1991. That afternoon between 4:30 and 5 p.m., Nikki left to go four houses further down the street and see another friend. She was never seen again.
According to the Charley Project, police searched for the child with dogs and believe she was picked up on the corner of Salisbury Drive and Larchmont Street near her home before she was taken to a nearby McDonald’s and eventually onto westbound Interstate 80.
In 1992, police named an Oakland man, Timothy Bindner, as a suspect in the case and searched his home, but found nothing. Bindner ended up suing the town of Fairfield for defamation and won a $90,000 settlement in the late 90s.
Bindner was also a person of interest in the disappearance of several other little girls in that area of California and reportedly inserted himself into the investigations but was never charged. Coincidentally, Bindner was later called for jury duty in a murder case and was accused of “misrepresent(ing) himself to get onto the jury,” the East Bay Times reported in 2009.
In 2001, police searched the crawl space of a home after receiving a tip that Nikki may have been killed and buried there, but that search was fruitless as well.
In late 2020, authorities were hopeful that they might get some new information in Nikki’s case after a man was arrested for a separate child abduction from the same area. There have been no further updates since that 2020 article.
If Nikki is still alive, she would be 36 years old as of 2023, but police do suspect she is the victim of foul play. If you have any information about her disappearance, please call the Fairfield Police Department 707-428-7355.
