MONTGOMERY, TX — The mysterious woman who was caught on surveillance footage ringing a Texas doorbell in the middle of the night has revealed what really happened the night she showed up outside a home wearing restraints on her wrist. Footage of the woman, who was barefoot and wearing a T-shirt and appeared to be in distress, went viral.
The woman, identified only as “Lauren,” told Inside Edition that her night of terror started after she woke up to find her boyfriend of four months, identified by police as Dennis Collins, “stuffing some sort of cloths in my mouth, duct-taping my entire head.” At first, she said, she thought that she was having a nightmare. Once she realized what was happening, she said that she was in fear of her life.
She said that Collins raped her. After he allowed her to go to the kitchen to get a drink, she managed to escape. Once able to flee Collins in terror, she looked for help in the neighborhood.
She flagged down a car begging for help, but it drove away. That’s when she went onto that doorstep in Montgomery at around 3:20 A.M. and rang the doorbell.
Police looked for her the mysterious woman for days, and eventually found out that she was safe.
“I truly felt like when that was happening, like, I was going to die there that night,” Lauren said.
She said that she believes that the doorbell video may have saved her life. As far as Collins, five days after Lauren fled from his clutches, he fatally shot himself.
