CONYERS, AZ — Police say an 81-year-old Arizona grandmother died after her 30-year-old grandchild slit the woman’s throat.
According to a police report, Brandon Smith was acting as the caregiver for grandmother Helen Smith and became “frustrated with being the only one in the family who cared for their elderly grandmother who suffered from dementia.”
As a result, the cops say, Brandon “decided to end her life.”

Brandon, who on social media goes by the name “Brandon Smith-Satan,” is described in legal documents as being male, but some news outlets are using gender-neutral terminology.
On Sunday, Brandon allegedly exploded in homicidal anger after Helen urinated on herself.
Reportedly, Brandon dragged Helen to the bathroom and slapped her in the face, knocking her unconscious in the tub. From there, cops say, Brandon grabbed a kitchen knife and fatally slashed Helen’s throat.
Authorities say Brandon’s sister called 911 to report that her grandmother wasn’t moving and that someone had “beaten her up and sliced her throat.” According to Chandler Police Department detective Seth Tyler:
“The sister was at home and a second individual was there. When officers got on scene she told officers that it was her brother who committed the crime. She was asleep and woke up and what woke her up was Brandon carrying Helen out of the apartment.”
Tyler added that Brandon was already on probation for aggravated assault at the time of the crime, and that Brandon fled the scene before responders arrived. Police picked up Brandon shortly thereafter at a “nearby location.”
Brandon Smith has been booked on suspicion of first-degree murder and is being held on $1 million bail. Brandon is scheduled to appear in court on August 6.
