A man in South Carolina is under arrest after his ex-girlfriend phoned 911 and claimed he allegedly was chasing her down a road after breaking into her home, according to authorities.
Daniel Gabriel Harmon, 34, currently faces a murder charge in connection with the presumed death of Jamilla “Millie” Shanae’ Smith, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office said, WLTX reported.
Smith, 30, was last heard from when she made a distressing 9-1-1 call on Dec. 2, 2023, WPDE and The August Press reported, citing an affidavit.
The affidavit claims Smith told an emergency dispatcher that her ex-boyfriend, Harmon, broke into her house, located in Beech Island, and she was trying to flee as he allegedly chased her on a nearby road.
The dispatcher reported hearing what sounded like an engine revving. “Jamilla is heard screaming and the phone appears to drop,” the affidavit claims, adding a male can be heard telling her to get into a vehicle so he can transport her to a hospital for help.
The affidavit alleges that in the 911 recording, the male refutes Smith’s claims he hit her with his car and allegedly tells her that she jumped in front of his vehicle.
Investigators in North Augusta later located a vehicle Harmon had rented, a 2023 Black Dodge Charger, and allegedly found blood inside the trunk as well as on a spare tire, according to authorities.
Smith’s concerned mother reported Smith missing on Dec. 3. Law enforcement officials noted Smith has not been in touch with family, including her children, since the day of the 911 call.
Harmon was arrested on Dec. 5 and initially charged with second-degree domestic violence, a warrant shows.
The charges against him were later upgraded to include kidnapping as well as murder, according to police.
He was being held without bond in the Aiken County Detention Center.
