Kayla Hodgson was only 23 years old when she was found brutally murdered in her home on July 13, 2022. NBC Miami reported that friends and family members revealed that she was stabbed to death. She was living at the Tamarac Village apartment complex in Broward County, Florida, and was working as a bartender at the time.

The mystery has deepened in the two weeks since her death as no easy suspects have emerged. On July 25, 2022, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that no arrests have been made yet, and the investigation into her death is ongoing.

Swana Alphonse, Hodgson’s former employer and friend, told NBC Miami that she was well-known as a South Florida bottle waitress. He also said, “She was just really sweet. She was the life of the party. She always had kind words.”

On the GoFundMe page that was created to help with funeral expenses, her family remarked on her “compassion, humbleness, and loyalty”. They also said, “Everyone who was lucky enough to cross paths with Kayla had no choice but to love her vibrant personality and big heart.”

Hodgson’s family friend Brianna told WPLG-TV, “She was bright. She was beautiful. She was everybody’s hype man. Her life was gone way too soon.”

A $5,000 reward is being offered to anyone who can provide information on the murder that leads to an arrest. If you have any information on the case, contact Detective Ian Kuechler at 954-321-4200 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. You can also offer tips online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
