On Jan. 19, 2023, Sherry Comer, 49, was arrested after security footage showed her taking two dogs from a Lakeland, Florida residential property and putting them in her car.
The owner of the dogs posted a video of the Jan. 18 incident to Facebook, where somebody who saw the post recognized the woman as Comer.
When officers arrived at Comer’s Lakeland home, they allegedly found around 20 dogs inside. She reportedly told deputies she breeds and sells the animals. According to WFLA, animal control determined the animals were well cared for and living conditions were safe and sanitary. The dogs were also scanned for microchips but none were found.
The two stolen dogs were returned to their owners.
Comer was charged with burglary and two counts of grand theft. She is currently at the Polk County jail, and is not eligible for bond.
