Takeoff, one third of the rap group Migos, was shot and killed early Nov. 1, 2022, in Houston, Texas.
The “Stir Fry” rapper, whose real name was Kirshnik Khari Ball, 28, was shot outside of a bowling alley, a representative confirmed to the Associated Press.
In a video obtained by TMZ, you can hear Quavo, one of the members of Migos and the uncle of Takeoff, on the phone with a 911 operator asking, “what does she need to do?” in regards to a woman in the video who identified herself as a nurse and offered to help Takeoff.
According to audio of the 911 call, also gathered by TMZ, you can hear dispatchers discussing the shooting, revealing 5 shots were fired.
Quavo and Takeoff were playing dice at the 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston when a heated argument began. That’s when someone opened fire and shot Takeoff, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police told the Associated Press two other men were injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Security guards, who were in the area, said they heard the shooting but did not see who it was.
Police were able to use surveillance footage, cell phone videos, and fingerprints from a wine bottle to identify the suspect as 33-year-old Patrick Clark of Channelview.
In December 2022, Houston police arrested Clark but he was released from jail the next month on a $1 million bond. In May 2023, he was formally charged with murder.
At the time of the murder, celebrities took to social media to react to the news.
Rapper Desiigner broke down during an Instagram Live and said he was quitting music.
“I’m done, I’m done, I’m done. I can’t live like this no more,” the “Panda” artist said through tears. “I’m done [with] rap.”
Ja Rule tweeted “Rip Takeoff… this s–t has to STOP… sending love to friends and family 🕊🙏🏾.”
Yung Miami, one half of the rap duo City Girls, tweeted, “Damn takeoff 💔💔💔.”
Niecy Nash did not directly name Takeoff in her post; however, she shared a poignant message on Instagram. “Leaving your house & returning back safely is such an underrated blessing,” the actress wrote. “Don’t take it lightly 🙏🏽❤️.”
Takeoff joined his uncle Quavo, and Offset, his cousin, more than 15 years ago to form their rap trio out of Lawrenceville, Georgia. Recently, Offset announced his departure from the group but the three have made hit songs with some of the biggest artists like Beyonce, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, and Calvin Harris.
