Georgia mother found dead after sending her daughter a cryptic message
Debbie Collier, of Athens, Georgia, was last seen leaving her home on Sept. 9, and reported missing on Sept. 10 by her husband and her adult daughter. The father-daughter duo grew concerned after the daughter received a disturbing message from her mom as part of a nearly $2,400 Venmo transfer. The message read: "They are not going to let me go, love you". The day after she was reported missing, Collier’s body was found naked and burned “grasping a small tree with her right hand" at the base of an embankment. There are no publicly-known suspects at this time.

‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ and ‘Riverdale’ actor sentenced to life for murdering his mother
On Sept. 21, Canadian actor Ryan Grantham was sentenced to life in prison after admitting to killing his mother in March 2020. After shooting his mother to death, he had planned to also kill Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and carry out a mass shooting in British Columbia. Grantham, 23, was declared eligible for parole after 14 years during sentencing proceedings at the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

Mystery surrounds case of 13-year old Georgia boy found dead in the woods
On Sept. 19, a woman walking her child home from school came across a blue tarp and a body. The body was later identified as 13-year-old Jamiren Crosby, who had left home with friends at 2 a.m. on Sept. 17, which was the last time his mother saw him alive. His loved ones had been searching for him since then. DeKalb County Police have not classified the death as a homicide and a cause of death has not been released at this time.

College student fatally shot after getting in the wrong car
On Sept. 17, University of Tampa student Carson Senfield was celebrating his 19th birthday with friends when he was killed. According to witnesses, Senfield got out of his rideshare and tried to get into another car of a male parked nearby. The driver of the vehicle allegedly fatally shot Senfield in the upper body out of fear. At this point, it’s unclear whether the shooter will face any charges.

Denver man was found guilty of first-degree murder for killing 21-year-old dog walker
On Sept. 22, Michael Close, 38, was found guilty of first-degree murder for the death of 21-year-old Isabella Thallas. On June 10, 2020, Thallas and her boyfriend, Darian Simon, were walking their dog when they stopped in front of Close’s house. Close allegedly yelled out the window at the couple as they urged the pup to “go potty.” He then went to another room, retrieved an AK-47, came back and fired 24 times.Thallas was hit in the back and died instantly and her boyfriend was shot twice. He ran from the scene until he collapsed not far away. Close had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity but prosecutors argued he knew what he was doing during the shooting.
