Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey said he will voluntarily go to court, in the U.K., to prove his innocence.
On May 26, 2022, the 62-year-old Academy and Emmy award winner was slammed with four counts of sexual assault charges against three men, according to USA Today.
According to a report by the Crown Prosecution Service Special Crime Division, one man accused Spacey of two incidents of sexual assault in March 2005, in London. Another accused him of sexual assault in August 2008. The final accuser alleges the House of Cards actor assaulted him in April 2013, in Gloucestershire, according to reporting by ABC News.
The charges come after evidence was gathered by the Metropolitan Police. Spacey can only formally be charged if he is arrested in England or Wales.
In a statement to Good Morning America, through his attorney, Spacey said he would voluntarily stand trial in England.
"I very much appreciate the Crown Prosecution Service's statement in which they carefully reminded the media and the public that I am entitled to a fair trial, and innocent until proven otherwise. While I am disappointed with their decision to move forward, I will voluntarily appear in the U.K. as soon as can be arranged and defend myself against these charges, which I am confident will prove my innocence,” the statement said.
Allegations of sexual misconduct against the American Beauty star first surfaced in 2017, during the height of the #MeToo movement. Anthony Rapp, who is best known for his role in the musical Rent, accused Spacey of making sexual advances on him when he was 14.
Spacey said he did not remember the incident but apologized. According to ABC News, Rapp filed a civil suit against Spacey in 2020 and it is still ongoing.
