On the morning of Oct. 6, 2022, a woman showed up screaming for help at a house in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. She explained that she’d been taken from Kansas City back in the beginning of September. KMBC reported that she was then held captive in a small basement room where she was kept bound. She was allegedly whipped and raped repeatedly by her captor.
According to KCTV, when the woman escaped, she was bound with duct tape and had a metal collar around her neck. Court documents revealed that she had also been restrained with handcuffs on her wrists and ankles while she was held captive. The woman has “obvious signs” of trauma and said there were other victims. The malnourished woman was able to escape after her captor left to take his child to school.
A man who has been identified as Timothy Haslett, Jr. has been taken into police custody, and he’s been charged with rape, assault, and kidnapping the woman. BET reported that Haslett, 39, is an avowed white supremacist, and the victim is Black.
KSHB reported that the Excelsior Springs police had already visited Haslett’s home three times in the past year. There are rumors that Haslett has ties to multiple women who have gone missing in Kansas City, but police have not confirmed evidence of other victims.
The Excelsior Springs Police Department has activated the Clay County Investigative Squad Task Force. The Excelsior Citizen explained that this group is “a multi-jurisdictional entity comprised of members from multiple municipal law enforcement organizations within Clay County, as well as members of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office.”
Mr. Haslett is being held at the Clay County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond. He has been assigned a public defender.
