DUNCAN, OK — Patricia Ann Spann, 45, has pleaded guilty to felony incest after marrying 26-year-old Misty Dawn Velvet Spann — her own biological daughter.
As part of her plea deal, Patricia was sentenced to two years in prison followed by eight years probation. She will also have to pay a $1,500 fine and be permanently placed on a sex offender registry.
If Patricia’s penalty seems harsh, consider that this was not her first offense: In 2008, she married her own biological son.
Fifteen months later, the groom had that union annulled after pointing out to the court it was incestuous. No charges arose from that first maternal matrimony.
Last November, Misty pleaded guilty in exchange for a 10-year suspended sentence.
Patricia initially lost custody of her children while Misty was still young, which left the women estranged for years. However, in 2014, mom and daughter came together and, as Patricia put it, “hit it off.” After Oklahoma OK’d same sex marriage two years later, Patricia and Misty got hitched.
Authorities discovered the familial nature of the defiantly non-blushing brides during a 2016 child-welfare investigation. Patricia claimed she didn’t think anything illegal was going on because, for some reason, she’s no longer listed as the mother on Misty’s birth certificate. Police informed Patricia she was wrong about that.
