HASTINGS, NE — Nebraska prosecutors allege that a woman had sex with her father as the result of a “jealous competition” with her half-sister to see who could sleep with him first. Both the daughter and the dad have been arrested and charged with incest.
Samantha Kershner, 21, and her father, Travis Fieldgrove, allegedly admitted they were in an active sexual and romantic relationship, and that they both knew they were biologically related when it started. According to reports, Kershner’s mother tipped off the authorities to the situation.
Investigators say that Kershner did not grow up with Fieldgrove, and only learned of their connection after her mother introduced her to him in 2015. For the next three years, Kershner and Fieldgrove were reportedly not intimate.
Both the father and daughter reportedly said they first had sex on September 10, 2018, and then, upon learning they were being investigated, got married at the Adams County Courthouse on October 1.
As Kershner’s birth certificate does not name Fieldgrove as her father, no legal red flags went up. However, a January 14 DNA test reportedly indicates 99.9999-percent likelihood that Fieldgrove is Kershner’s male parent.
While neither suspect specified exactly what prompted them to turn intimate, in a jailhouse interview, Kershner allegedly said she acted, initially at least, as a result of “jealous competition with her half-sister regarding who could have sex with their father.”
Kershner and Fieldgrove have each been charged with one count of incest and are in custody at the Hall County Jail. Kershner is being held on $20,000 bail; Fieldgrove is being held on $100,000 bail. If convicted, each suspect could face up to eight years in prison.
